After five weeks of phleghmy, coughy, sneeezy misery, I went to see an allergist today.  First time since I was a kid, back when I got regular allergy shots.  He went throught the whole scratch test rigamarole to determine exactly what it is I'm allergic to these days.  (I had myself a nice little nap, all stretched out on my belly on the slab while waiting for the doc to come see where my back was itchy.)

Turns out I'm allergic to North Carolina.

Specifically, I'm allergic to oak trees.  Guess what kind of tree we've got a whoooole lot of 'round these parts?  Here's a hint:  the official nickname of nearby-ish Raleigh is the "City of Oaks."

So, yeah.  No real surprise that I've been having allergy issues this year.  And apparently, every spring that we're here will be like this for me.  Yippee.  (Next year:  medication!)

Also, unfortunately, I'm apparently allergic to my dog.  I've always known that I'm allergic to cats, but supposedly not dogs.  Clearly I'm not getting rid of the big yellow doofus, but I'm going to have to start being a little lot more diligent in my hand-washing and such after Tommy-related activities and medicating when going to places where I'm pretty sure I'm gonna be playing with dogs.  'Cause I ain't gonna not play with dogs when given the opportunity.

(Also also, I've lost eight pounds.  Go me!)

All those "honey-do's" will work off the weight.;)

Confessions of a fellow-sufferer.

Oh hon, I'm sorry. Allergies suck ass.

You know what has been known to help? Showers before bed. And keeping the dog out of the bedroom. If you can get decent sleep, the rest of the day might be easier to handle.

Being religious about house-cleaning can do wonders too.
