I'm missing part of my family's life while I'm away, and that saddens me greatly--as much or more as all of the other sadness I've had to bear the last three days. Seeing my father laid up in a hospital bed with an oxygen mask covering his face just so he could breathe. Seeing my beloved hometown beaten and broken and places that have meant so much to me changed forever or simply gone.

I want to go home.

I add my hug to that from my wife.

Absences can be bittersweet for me in that they increase the contrast on what I value and what I don't, providing a mirror for my heart that way.

You were missed today on our outing, and not just by your family.

I'm glad you have a father to visit.
