MINDLESS: A One-Act, One-Minute Play
by [info]badlittlemonkey

CHARACTERS

[info]badlittlemonkey, a banking customer.

TELLER, a banking teller.

SETTING

A Bank of America branch somewhere in North Carolina.

TIME

A warm, overcast February morning sometime in the early 21st century.

ACT I

SCENE I

([personal profile] badlittlemonkey  pulls up to the drive-in teller at Bank of America. He puts the check he needs to deposit, the deposit slip and his driver's license in the whooshy chute thing and presses "send." He waits patiently, letting his mind drift off toward one of the four million things presently occupying it.)

TELLER
Good morning, Mr. Monkey. How are you today?

BADLITTLEMONKEY
I'm fine, thank —

TELLER
You need to sign the back of this check, please.

BADLITTLEMONKEY
Oh, shoot, OK.

TELLER
I'm sending it back now.

(The whooshy shute thing brings the documents back to BLM. He dutifully endorses the check and sends it whooshing back again. Once again, his mind begins to drift...)

TELLER
Mr. Monkey, you also need to sign the deposit slip for the cash back.
(Beat)
Loser.

BADLITTLEMONKEY
oh gee gosh very sorry rough morning so sorry please forgive sorry

(Once more with the whooshing, the signing, and the returning.)

TELLER
There you are, Mr. Monkey. Thank you for banking with Bank of America. Have a nice day. And please try not to leave your brain in your other pants next time, OK?

BADLITTLEMONKEY
yes i sure will very sorry rough morning thank you bye.

(End.)

Now the teller might also have been a bit more on the ball and noticed both signatures missing and only had to send stuff back to you once....

*hugs* this too shall pass.

*gratefully accepts hugs* Thanks. I'll be very happy when all of this eventually does pass and I can get back to being my normal, happy-go-lucky self. In the meantime, I figure if I can laugh about it, that'll at least take the edge off. :)

I was just gonna rant to you a little on IM about it, but decided it'd be more fun (and cathartic) to write it up all funny-like. :)

If it makes you feel better, I've had one of those kinds of mornings myself. Only it's my boss in the teller's position, so a bit more embarassing. :-)

That does help a little, thanks, hon. :)

Hope your day's gotten a little better since then!

Actually, it would seem I'd left it at work. It was sitting right here next to my monitor when I got here. :)
